Playing pirate and finding Jesus
There’s treasure in Heaven - how do we find it?
Do you ever pretend to be a pirate when playing make believe? What do pirates do? They sail around on ships looking for treasure, right? They search for gold, and jewels, and pearls. And when they find treasure, they put it in a treasure chest for safekeeping and bury it. Then they make a treasure map so they can find it again.
Your mom and dad use maps on their phones to find places, right? They might ask their GPS to show them places to stop and eat while you’re traveling. If they ask the GPS where buried treasure is, would it show them? No, of course not. It doesn’t know where treasure is.
Do you know where treasure is? There’s treasure in Heaven. Jesus said not to store up treasure on earth, but to lay up treasure in Heaven. Did you know there’s going to be gold in Heaven? Revelation tells us that the streets are made from gold! Woah! That’s a symbolic way of saying everything in Heaven is going to be pure.
How do we find Heaven and the treasure Jesus has laid up for us there? When you die will you know where to go to find Heaven?
You don’t have to know the way; you have to know Jesus. He is the way, He is the truth, and He is the life. The real treasure in Heaven isn’t gold, it’s Jesus. He loved you so much that He died for you to cover your sins with His blood.
Pirates searched for treasure because they wanted to feel secure. Jesus is treasure that truly makes you secure. In Heaven, He’s going to love you, He’s going to put His arms around you. Forever. You don’t have to be a pirate to find treasure. You just need to know Jesus.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You that You are the real treasure of Heaven. Thank you for giving us a map in the Bible, and that You are the way and the truth and the life. I pray that we understand that You died to make us secure now and forever.
About the Redeemer Community Church PCA children's devotions:
Sometimes it can be hard to break down Biblical truths for our kids into easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember bite-sized pieces. Pastor Chuck does this weekly in his Children's Sermon, and we're sharing key points from those sermons here each week. Feel free to use with your littles as conversation starters throughout the week, reminders of what we learned in church on Sundays, and just general opportunities to share our love of God's word and His love for us.
Redeemer Community Church PCA is a Presbyterian church in Ocala, FL.
