He's the vine, we're the branches - how to stay connected
How do we stay connected to Jesus?
Can I hold a lightbulb in my hand and turn it on? Nope, that won’t work because it’s not connected to anything. What if I put it in my mouth and try it? No way. Then it’s connected to me but not to electricity.
If I tear leaves off a tomato vine and stick them in the ground, will they grow tomatoes? No, those leaves won’t even grow unless they’re connected to the vine.
Jesus said, “I’m the vine and you’re the branches.” He tells us we need to stay connected to Him. How do we stay connected to Jesus? We stay connected to Jesus by praying to Him and confessing our sins.
Sometimes we need to pray and ask Jesus to forgive us for being selfish and impatient. Have you ever wanted someone to share a toy with you, and you got really impatient and rude about it? We need to pray, “Jesus, I’m sorry for being impatient and selfish, and I’m glad You are patient with us even when we’re impatient with others.” You know, being patient doesn’t come from us, it comes from Jesus. We need to stay closely connected with Jesus, like leaves on a vine. Praying a lot and regularly confessing our sins to Jesus is a good way to make sure we’re keeping close to Him.
Prayer
Dear God, we pray that you would plant the Gospel seed deeply in our hearts and that You would bear much fruit.
About the Redeemer Community Church PCA children's devotions:
Sometimes it can be hard to break down Biblical truths for our kids into easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember bite-sized pieces. Pastor Chuck does this weekly in his Children's Sermon, and we're sharing key points from those sermons here each week. Feel free to use with your littles as conversation starters throughout the week, reminders of what we learned in church on Sundays, and just general opportunities to share our love of God's word and His love for us.
Redeemer Community Church PCA is a Presbyterian church in Ocala, FL.
