The three little pigs and the two houses
Build your house on the Rock!
Do you remember the story of the Three Little Pigs? The first pig built his house out of straw. The second built his house out of sticks. The wolf came and huffed and puffed and blew down both of their houses. The third pig built his house out of bricks and the wolf couldn’t knock it down.
Jesus didn’t tell that story, but He did tell one about two men who built houses. One man built his house on sand and the other built his house on rock. The rain came down and winds blew. The house that was built on the sand fell down. Why? Because it wasn’t built on a foundation. The water washed the sand right away and the house collapsed.
Jesus wasn’t teaching about three little pigs, He was teaching something much more important.
Jesus wanted us to learn to build our spiritual house on Him.
When we build our spiritual houses on sand, what do we build them on? Not real sand, mind you. But we build our houses on things like money, pleasure, and fun.
When we build our spiritual houses on rock, what do we build them on? Jesus, of course! Why? Because Jesus is perfect. He never sinned. He never disobeyed his mom or dad. He was never disrespectful.
Have you ever been kind of ugly to your siblings or friends? We all have, at some point...because we are sinners. We all need a savior. Jesus perfectly pleased God the Father. He is the rock. If you want to build your house on Jesus the rock, you need to trust Him as your Savior.
Just say, “Jesus, I’m a sinner. Sometimes my heart wants to disobey God. I need a Savior who will die on the cross for someone like me.” What did you do for Jesus to die for you? Nothing. He gives us his perfect goodness. That’s how we build our house upon the rock.
Prayer:
Lord, it’s so easy to get our priorities out of whack. Thank you that you always knew what do, say, teach, how to make us right with God by dying on the cross. Help us to repent of our sins and trust you boldly. And may we never remember the day when we did not love you or receive you as our savior.
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you’re the treasure of our hearts. We worship the Father because of what you did.
