Making your bed and other times it's hard to obey
Do you obey all the time?
Is it hard sometimes? The truth is we all struggle to obey. You probably struggle sometimes, whether you’re supposed to be picking up the living room, brushing your teeth, or taking out the trash. Did you know your mom and dad and even your pastor struggle to obey, too? Do you know why we struggle to obey? Because we’re sinners. We need Jesus. You need Jesus to make your bed and brush your teeth. You need Jesus to take out the trash. We need Jesus for all of that. Listen to the words of this song about a kid who had trouble remembering to obey and make his bed. It’s a silly song but it has an important point!
(The Bed Making Song) Noomy Shoomy Oomy
My parents gave to me a nickel
Noomy shoomy oomy to rememberoo
But I did not get to keep the nickel
‘Cause I did not make my bed
SO I tied a string around my finger
Noomy shoomy oomy to rememberoo
But I forgot the string around my finger
So I did not make my bed
So I stuck a feather in my Bible
Noomy shoomy oomy to rememberoo
But I forgot to read my bible
So I did not make my bed
So I put peanut butter on my toothbrush
Noomy shoomy oomy to rememberoo
But I forgot to use my toothbrush
So I did not make my bed
So I put the cat into the bathtub
Noomy shoomy oomy to rememberoo
But the cat didn’t like it in the bathtub
so I did not make my bed
So I let my doggie in the window
Noomy shoomy oomy to rememberoo
But I forgot to close the window
And the bugs flew in and the bat chased the bugs
and the cat chased the bat and the dog chased the cat.
The goose chased the dog and mom chased the goose
and dad chased mom and everybody’s gone so I tried to pick my nose
But then I felt the string around my finger so I made my bed.
The kid in this song certainly had a hard time obeying and making his bed, right? It’s hard to obey, isn’t it?! We need Jesus to obey. We need Him to read the Bible, make our beds, and take out trash. We need him every minute of every day.
Prayer
Jesus, we need You so much. We forget how much we need You. Help us to remember what You did for us on the cross. Let that affect how we live and change the way we act, and change how we feel about facing every day, and change how we look at our moms and dads. We pray and worship in Your name. Amen.

About the Redeemer Community Church PCA children's devotions:
Sometimes it can be hard to break down Biblical truths for our kids into easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember bite-sized pieces. Pastor Chuck does this weekly in his Children's Sermon, and we're sharing key points from those sermons here each week. Feel free to use with your littles as conversation starters throughout the week, reminders of what we learned in church on Sundays, and just general opportunities to share our love of God's word and His love for us.
Redeemer Community Church PCA is a Presbyterian church in Ocala, FL.
