The treasure that's worth everything
Jesus talked to people a lot. He talked to them to teach them about who God was. And who were the people who he talked to the most? His disciples. Do you know what “disciple” means? It means “one who learns.” We are His disciples, too.
Jesus told His disciples stories called parables. A parable means to hold alongside of. Jesus said to hold yourself alongside the story and learn what the parable means for you.
One parable He told was about a man digging in a field when he found a buried treasure chest. What do you think was inside? Treasure! Jewels and gems and precious metals like gold and silver. The man thought, “I’m going to go sell everything I have so I can buy this field that has the treasure buried in it!” So he went and sold all his belongings so he could buy that field.
Do you know what that shows us about being disciple of Jesus? That being a disciple of Jesus is worth everything you have. The treasure we find is not gold and silver. It’s life, truth, hope, love, joy, peace, strength, and Heaven. When you know Jesus in your heart, that’s the treasure! Nothing can take that away.
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you’re the treasure of our hearts. We worship the Father because of what you did.
About the Redeemer Community Church PCA children's devotions:
Sometimes it can be hard to break down Biblical truths for our kids into easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember bite-sized pieces. Pastor Chuck does this weekly in his Children's Sermon, and we're sharing key points from those sermons here each week. Feel free to use with your littles as conversation starters throughout the week, reminders of what we learned in church on Sundays, and just general opportunities to share our love of God's word and His love for us.
Redeemer Community Church PCA is a Presbyterian church in Ocala, FL.
