How can God be pleased with me?

Did you know that I'm proud that you're my child (grandchild)? I sure am! And did you know that Jesus' father, God, was proud of Him?

The Bible tells us that when Jesus was baptized, God said, "You are my Son, whom I love. With you I am well pleased."

Why was He so proud of His Son, Jesus?

God was proud because Jesus always did the things that His Father wanted.

Jesus never had a bad thought. Jesus never had a bad word come out of his mouth. Jesus was never selfish. Jesus was never impatient with anybody.

Does that describe you? Do you always do the things your mom and dad want?

No, you might try, but you fail, don't you?

You're like me. I fail, too. I don't always do the things that please our Father in Heaven, God.

How can God be proud of you? How can He be proud of me? How can God look at us and say, "That's my child and I'm pleased with him?"

God can say that about us when we trust Jesus as our savior. God doesn't just call us His sons, He gives us the righteous clothes of Jesus to put on.

Jesus put on your clothes - your sins - when he died.

God is pleased with us when we trust in Jesus and lean on Jesus and rely on Jesus. And when you do that, God says, "This is my beloved child and with you I'm well pleased."

Prayer

Lord, thank you for your son, Jesus, who you are so proud of, who always did the right things. I don't always do the right things - none of us do. We're thankful that when we rest on and trust in your son Jesus, You are well-pleased with us.

About the Redeemer Community Church PCA children's devotions:

Sometimes it can be hard to break down Biblical truths for our kids into easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember bite-sized pieces. Pastor Chuck does this weekly in his Children's Sermon, and we're sharing key points from those sermons here each week. Feel free to use with your littles as conversation starters throughout the week, reminders of what we learned in church on Sundays, and just general opportunities to share our love of God's word and His love for us.
