Jesus is our spotter!
Have you seen people lifting weights at the gym? Did you know that if you're lifting heavy weights, you should never do it by yourself? Can you guess why? Imagine lying there on the bench, lifting a heavy, heavy weight up above your head. Now imagine it gets too heavy and you just can't hold it up anymore. That weight could fall right down on you and crush you!
That's why you should always have someone there helping you. That person is called a spotter. If the weight gets too heavy, the spotter can reach out and grab the weight before it crushes you.
The Bible says, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."
If someone has a heavy burden and can't quite lift it up, they need someone else to be their spotter who will help them.
Can you think of someone who has a heavy burden that maybe you could help with? Maybe your mom? Your dad? Your grandma, grandad, or neighbor? Sometimes they might need a spotter who can help bear their burden.
Why should we help others bear their burdens? Well, that's what Jesus did.
Jesus bore our burdens when he died on the cross for us.
If he didn't, our sins would crush us. They are that heavy. Jesus died on the cross to be my spotter - to keep my sins from crushing me. And He's your spotter, too.
We can love one another by remembering all the ways Jesus keeps us from being crushed by our sins and by helping others with their earthly burdens, too.
Prayer:
Lord thank you for your Son, Jesus, Who came to pay for our sins to keep us from being crushed by them. Help us to love one another and bear one another's burdens and so fulfill Your law, Jesus.
About the Redeemer Community Church PCA children's devotions:
Sometimes it can be hard to break down Biblical truths for our kids into easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember bite-sized pieces. Pastor Chuck does this weekly in his Children's Sermon, and we're sharing key points from those sermons here each week. Feel free to use with your littles as conversation starters throughout the week, reminders of what we learned in church on Sundays, and just general opportunities to share our love of God's word and His love for us
