A guide for how to pray - useful for kiddos and adults alike!
How to pray
What does it mean to pray? It’s talking to Jesus, right? What do you pray for?
Do you ever start to pray and then stop and wonder what you should say and who you should pray for? Here’s a good way to remember what you should pray about.
Fold your hands like this – press your hands together flat and upright. What finger is closest to you? It’s your thumb, right?
Thumb – this is the finger that’s the closest to you. It can remind you to pray for people who are closest to you, like your parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.
Pointer finger – this finger can remind you to pray for the people who point you to Jesus. This might be your pastor, missionaries or even church services.
Middle finger – this is your tallest finger. This finger can remind you to pray for those who are in authority over us. This could be the president, our governor, our mayor, and other people who are leaders in our community.
Ring finger – Did you know this is your weakest finger? It Is! This finger can remind you to pray for people who are sick, weak or hurt.
Little finger – This is your smallest finger! Use this to remind yourself to…pray for yourself! Pray that you can love Jesus better and love your parents better. Pray that you can obey Him and that Jesus will live in your heart.
SO what is prayer? Prayer is just talking to God about what’s going on in your life and what’s going on in His world. Prayer puts us in touch with the God who loves us better than we love ourselves.
PRAYER
Let’s pray right now for those who are close to us, who love us, who point us to Jesus, those who are in authority over us and those who have who been sick. Help us to know more about what it means to believe and trust in You, and what it means to repent of our sins. Help us to love You better. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
